Flipnotes vs Notion

Notion is a fine place to build a team wiki. But when you only want to jot a line on your phone, it asks you to think about pages first. Flipnotes just opens on the writing bar.

1Type and save
Open the app, type, tap Save.
2Speak a note
Tap the mic and talk. Your words appear as you speak.
3Your agenda
Dates in your notes show up in the agenda.
  • To us, Notion feels like a spreadsheet when you want to jot a line.
  • Pages, blocks, properties: a lot to think about for one note.
  • Flipnotes opens on the writing bar. Type, tap Save, done.
  • Dates in a note go in your agenda on their own.

A wiki and a notebook

Notion is built from pages, blocks and databases. A database is a collection of pages, and each page can have properties like a date or a status. If your team keeps a wiki or a project tracker, it does that well.

To us, it feels like building a spreadsheet when all you wanted was to write a line on your phone. You start thinking about where the note lives before it exists. Flipnotes opens on the writing bar, and after you save, the note files itself.

Writing down one quick note

One typed note on your phone, from opening the app to having it in a place you can find.

Notion

  1. 1Open the app
  2. 2Tap the new page icon
  3. 3Give it a title and type
  4. 4Move it to another page, or add properties, if you want it sorted

Flipnotes

  1. 1Open the app. The writing bar is already there
  2. 2Type
  3. 3Tap Save

The count is close. The difference is what comes after: in Notion the sorting is your job, in Flipnotes you never pick a page or a database.

Type and save

Open the app and start typing

Flipnotes opens on today's page with the writing bar at the bottom. Type and tap Save. There is nothing to name and nowhere to put it.

The same bar has a mic, a camera and a pin for your location.

Voice and photo

Talk or take a picture

Tap the mic and say what you want to remember. Flipnotes writes it out as you speak and keeps the recording.

The camera takes a photo in two taps. You can add where you are to any note with the pin.

Agenda

Write a date and it lands in your agenda

Write "Dentist with Mia on Thursday at 3pm" and it shows up in your agenda on Thursday. You don't make a calendar entry.

You can look at the agenda as a list or as a week, month or year calendar.

Ask your notebook

Ask for it in your own words

Type or say "When am I seeing the dentist?" Your notebook reads your notes and answers.

Or tap Roll the dice and read a random note from the past.

Common questions

Is Flipnotes a replacement for Notion?

Not for team wikis or databases, which is what Notion does well. Flipnotes is for your own notes: things you type, say or photograph, kept in order for you without the spreadsheet feel.

Can I move my Notion notes over?

You can copy the notes you want into Flipnotes. New notes are filed for you as you save them.

Does Flipnotes have databases or templates?

No. You write a note and Flipnotes sorts it into categories, and puts dates in your agenda.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, and on your computer too: just open flipnotes.life in your browser. Your notes are the same everywhere.

Can I try it first?

Yes, your first month is free. After that you pick a plan.
